You'll have to explore several different realms to find the other three minion types, meaning that you'll have several region missions on the go at once as you reach an obstacle that requires a minion type that you haven't found yet. You start off the game with only brown minions at your command. The number of minions that you can summon in total is limited by your available life force: each minion type has its own life force type, which is given up when you kill some enemies or smash some crates. Blue minions are able to walk through water, but are very weak – however, they can also resurrect fallen minions, meaning that you don't waste life force.Įach minion is created via a summoning pit in the ground, with different coloured summoning pits representing different minion types and brown pits being both the most common pit and also an excellent chance for an off-colour joke. Red minions are immune to fire and lob fireballs at enemies, making them an effective long-range attack force. Green minions are immune to poison, and are also very good at climbing on the backs of larger enemies to attack them more effectively.

Brown minions are your general purpose tools, which are also more resilient to attack than the other types. There are four different types of minion at your disposal, each with their own abilities. I'd recommend ignoring her suggestions though and spending your gold on new weapons and armour as you find new recipes and combos. When you rescue the damsel in distress (or datdress.), she'll take over the decoration of the tower for you and you can start to spend all your ill-gotten gold on interior design. When you start, your tower will be a wreck, but as you progress through the game, you'll find items that help you repair and improve your HQ. But fairly soon on you’ll find that the build and rush technique, that has worked so well in pretty much every RTS I’ve played, just won’t work here… you have to use your minions as a cohesive group to win through the levels.GameplayYour Dark Tower is your base of operations, and from here you teleport to the various realms in your demesne.
#OVERLORD RAISING HELL WEAPONS FREE#
Overlord takes that idea and sure enough delivers a game along those lines but rather than take the obvious route of giving you obstacles which only one type of minion can pass you’re actually given a fairly free reign across each level… so how you go about winning is up to you. Finally there’s the greens who can slip behind the enemy for a rear attack and can also clear the way of anything poisonous.īut before you go thinking this is a formulaic puzzle leaning toward an RPG strategy game, think again. Reds are your ranged weapons chaps, hurling fireballs at the enemy and are immune to fire attacks. Then there’s the blues, who are supposed to revive fallen comrades of any colour but a dodgy bit of AI sees them going for weapons and treasure first, which can ruin your strategy.

The brown minions are your melee fighters… they go in and kick the crap out of everyone, picking up what weapons they can on the way. It has to be said that these take a little bit more than just some inspiration from Gremlins… but hey, who cares when it’s this much fun? To this end there’s four different minion types that you need to use in combination with each other to progress. Now it’s not a case of you strolling onto each level like Sauron from Lord of the Rings and laying about the place with a bloody great mace, no, the real action is in controlling your minions and getting them to do the dirty work for you.
